01/10/2019: Phishing emails posing as Canvas's research team

It has come to our attention that some of our users have received an email claiming to be from "The research team at Instructure." The sender displays as "Research at Instructure" but the sender email address is noreply@qemailserver.com. The subject of the email is "Help us make Canvas Assignments easier!" Instructure is the company that owns Canvas, and we have verified with them that no one related to Canvas or Instructure sent this message.

Please DO NOT click on any of the links in this email and instead report this message as a phishing attempt by forwarding the email to abuse@fsu.edu. Refer to FSU ITS phishing resources to learn more about identifying and reporting phishing emails.

Here is the message content:

A while ago you indicated you could participate in user research for Canvas. Well, the time has arrived! Details:

  • We're changing a few things related to Assignments, but first want to conduct a usability test to see if the changes are easy to use.
  • The test should take less than 10 minutes.
  • It can be completed online from your home or office anytime in the next few days, using a testing tool called "Validately."
